TENNERTON — After weighing her options, Buckhannon-Upshur High School stand-out athlete Cameron Zuliani has come to a final decision on what college her tremendous academic and athletic talents will call home for the next four years. This week, on Saturday, March 27, Zuliani ended all the speculation as she announced her commitment to and signed her national letter of intent with Merrimack College, a private institution nestled in Andover, Massachusetts. Merrimack College has competed in NCAA Division I athletics, as part of the Northeast Conference, since its inclusion back in 2018. Zuliani intends on joining the Warriors Women’s Swim Team, while also throwing discus for their track team.
With Zuliani’s decision, Merrimack College gains a gifted student-athlete, both in the pool and on the track, as well as an individual that engages with her community. While a student at B-UHS, Zuliani participated in Student Council, the West Virginia Association of Student Councils, Youth in Government, Youth Leadership Association, Future Business Leaders of America, Youth Environmental Club, Buckhannon Youth Council and National Honor Society. In addition to her well-documented swimming and track career, Zuliani was also a deadly accurate kicker for the Buccaneer football team, etching her name in the school record books as the first female to score in a football game for B-UHS. Zuliani’s wide-range of accomplishments over the last four years have brought her to achieving a lifelong dream of becoming a Division I student-athlete. Her signing day closed her recruitment process and brought her dream one step closer to reality.
Jackie Zuliani, Cameron’s Mom, mentor and track coach, released a statement summing up her family’s thoughts on this joyous. “We would like to thank everyone, family, friends and coaches, who have been a part of Cameron’s journey thus far! We can’t wait to see what comes next! We are beyond proud of her accomplishments! We would like to offer a special thank you to the Buckhannon Opera House and staff, especially Shahna West, for the delicious buffet and the use of their fabulous facility. Also, thank you to Unique Seat Boutique for the fantastic balloon decorations! Let’s go Warriors,” said Jackie Zuliani.
Zuliani took some time to express what this process coming to a close meant to her. “I am beyond excited to finally announce my future plans because many people have been asking me what sports I plan on continuing and where I will be going to school,” said Zuliani.
When asked what drew her to Merrimack College and the main factors that influenced her ultimate decision, Zuliani responded, “My decision was based off of the size of the campus, what majors they had to offer, how well the coaching staff helped accommodate my needs and where I could have the best opportunity for the next four years! I feel grateful to accomplish the dream of being a collegiate athlete, because this shows that all of my hard work has finally paid off.”
The Record Delta would like to wish Zuliani and all athletes luck in their current and future endeavors.
