TENNERTON — Stockert Youth Center (SYC) hosted their annual Skills Day for the upcoming Youth and Rec League basketball season at Buckhannon-Upshur High School Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Skills Day is a day for players who have signed up for basketball to showcase their skillset and evaluate their talent, the goal is to balance the teams and give an insight for what to expect during practice.

SYC Basketball features the Buddy and Me program for students in K-5 and the Rec League for middle school and high school students.

The Stockert Youth Center has taken an interest in providing the youth in Upshur County the opportunity to be involved and learn important life skills through the game, “It gives them something to do, it gives them a sense of being apart of something,” highlighted Debora Brockleman, Director at SYC.

Learning the fundamentals of basketball and understanding team values are goals the program sets out to teach members involved. “It provides them with a good environment, it’s a healthy activity and we’re about seeing the kids and teens continue to grow,” said Brockleman.

Signups are still available for Rec League Basketball, entry fee is listed at $50 and sign-up forms are expected to be filled out and turned in by Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Games are slated to tip off in January.
