WVWC’s Dodero Fernandez named MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week


BRIDGEPORT — Carlos Dodero Fernandez has been named the Mountain East Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while West Virginia State's Abigail Wild is the Women's Tennis Player of the Week, league announced today.

The Madrid, Spain native wins the honor for a second-straight week after piling up three more wins in singles and three more in doubles last week.

He won at No. 1 singles against Davis & Elkins, Frostburg State and West Liberty.

He had a win at No. 2 doubles against Davis & Elkins, and was a winner at No. 3 doubles against both Frostburg State and West Liberty.

Wild, a freshman from Sheffield, England, helped West Virginia State wrap up the MEC regular season title with wins in singles and doubles against Charleston.

She won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, and then won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, partnering with Emily Moore.
