WVWC’s Clark named MEC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT — West Virginia Wesleyan’s Brooke Clark is the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, while Frostburg State’s Shawna Leonard is the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Clark, a sophomore from Daniels, W.Va., was 9-for-16 (.563) over the weekend in four games. She guided the Bobcats to three wins with six runs scored, two RBI and a home run. Clark was 3-for-4 with a home run against USciences.

Leonard, a freshman from Meyersdale, Pa., pitched 12.1 innings in four games over the weekend. She picked up a win over Chowan after tossing 5.0 scoreless innings and giving up three hits. She earned a save in a 6-3 win over Elizabeth City State on Sunday.

Other Top Performances

Player: Brianna Powell (FROST) hit 7-for-12 over four games with five RBI and six runs scored… Mackenzie Martinelli (GSC) was 6-for-13 with four RBI and a stolen base in four games over the weekend… Kat Donzella (WLU) notched five hits and five RBI in a sweep of Salem over the weekend… Ariel Linberger (NDC) totaled seven hits five RBI and four doubles over five games last week… Emma Ruth (WVSU) tallied a hit and one run in each of the Yellow Jackets’ four games last week… Jenna Witt (CU) was 2-for-6 with a double and three RBI in a sweep of Salem last Tuesday.

Pitcher: McKenzie Zigmont (NDC) struck out nine and walked four over the week and recorded two wins… Emilee Walker (WVSU) retired 12 batters in five innings against IUP on Saturday… Cartney Schoolcraft (CU) struck out eight Salem batters and did not allow a hit in three innings of relief.
