WVWC’s Abigail O’Shields is named the Mountain East’s Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEPORT — Concord’s Jenna Witt and Wheeling’s Autumn Oehlstrom are the Mountain East Conference Softball Players of the Week, while West Virginia Wesleyan’s Abigail O'Shields is the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

Witt, a senior from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., went 5-for-9 (.556) from the plate in three games. Of the five hits, four of them were home runs, while she added seven RBI and was walked three times. Witt’s efforts guided Concord to a 2-1 record

Oehlstrom, a freshman from Lisbon, Ohio, was 11-for-19 (.579) last week as Wheeling posted a 3-3 record. Oehlstrom batted five runs in but was able to score 12 of her own. She was walked seven times and recorded one home run.

O'Shields, a freshman from Dagsboro, Del., had just one earned run in 19.0 innings and struckout 23 batters. O’Shields went 2-1 last week with two complete game shutouts. She currently ranks in the top 25 nationally in ERA.
