WVWC lacrosse drops contest to Senators

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team lost their home opener Sunday afternoon in a partial rainstorm at Ross Field.

The Lady ‘Cats dropped a 14-3 contest to the Davis & Elkins Senators in Mountain East Conference action.

Wesleyan fell behind by a 5-0 count before Makenzi Lewellyn put Wesleyan on the score board with 5:10 showing on the clock.

Davis & Elkins scored a goal before the half ended for a 6-1 lead at the break.

Wesleyan’s Victoria Sisson scored the first goal of the second half just two minutes in to bring Wesleyan to within four, at 6-2.

Davis & Elkins though scored the next six goals for a 12-2 lead.

Sisson ended the run for Wesleyan with her second goal of the game with 6:10 remaining making it a 12-3 contest.

The Senators scored the final two goals of the game.

Iris Kolenich had two assists for Wesleyan.

Emily Smith led Davis & Elkins with four goals while Paige Graff tallied three.

The Lady Bobcats were outshot by a 37-11 margin.

Wesleyan was guilty of 29 turnovers while the Senators turned it over 13 times.

The win improved Davis & Elkins to 2-0 on the season while Wesleyan dropped to 0-2.

The Lady Bobcats will return to action Wednesday hosting Frostburg State at 3 p.m.
