FAIRMONT – The West Virginia Wesleyan Acro & Tumbling team opened their 2021 season with a 262.430 – 239.205 loss to the Fairmont State Falcons Monday afternoon.
Wesleyan opened the season with the toughest team in the MEC as Fairmont State was selected in the preseason coaches’ poll to win the league.
In the compulsory events, Wesleyan tied Fairmont State in the pyramid heat, 9.35-9.35, but lost the acro heat (8.65-8.45), the toss heat (9.40-9.30) and the tumbling heat (7.90-6.05).
That left them down by a 35.30-33.15 score heading into the acro where they fell in the three heats.
They lost Heat 1 (5 Element) by a 9.90-8.80 score, Heat 2 (6 Element) by a 9.60-9.15 count and Heat 3 (7 Element) by a 9.05-8.20 score.
Wesleyan was then swept in the pyramid dropping Heat 1 (Inversion) 9.50-9.45, falling in Heat 2 (Synchronized) 9.55-8.95 and losing Heat 3 (Open) 9.70-9.10.
The Lady ‘Cats trailed at the half by a 92.60-86.80 score.
In the toss, Fairmont State won by a 26.90-25.90 score winning Heat 1 (450 Salto), 8.90-8.50, Heat 2 (Synchronized) 8.85-8.55 and Heat 3 (Open) 9.15-8.85.
Fairmont State went on to win the tumbling by a 53.600-45.725 score and the team event, 89.33-80.78.
Wesleyan will be back in action in their home opener on Monday against West Liberty.
The event will start at 6 p.m. in Rockefeller Center.
