WVSP charge man with strangulation

BUCKHANNON — A Buckhannon man was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly strangling his live-in girlfriend.

James Robert Arbogast, 47, was arrested for strangulation, a felony, by Sgt. A.S. Taylor with the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police. On Tuesday, Taylor responded to a domestic disturbance on Little Sand Run Road and spoke with the victim who stated that she engaged in an argument with Arbogast, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office.

The victim stated that Arbogast allegedly hit her and choked her until she began to lose consciousness.

Taylor observed red marks on the victim’s neck, consistent with her statement.

Magistrate Kay Hurst set bond at $50,000. If convicted, Arbogast faces a fine of not more than $2,500 or imprisoned in a state correctional facility for not less than one year or more than five years or both fined and imprisoned.
