WVSF King, Queen Elects crowned during coronation ceremony


BUCKHANNON — Tuesday, May 18 marked a very special part of the 80th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival as the King and Queen were crowned during Coronation at Wesley Chapel. The event took place at 6:30 p.m. on the West Virginia Wesleyan College campus.

Master of Ceremonies was Randy Sanders. A processional included the W. Va. Strawberry Festival Board of Directors, followed by Bishop Ed McDaniels, Mayor Robbie Skinner, Arch Bishop Upshur County Commissioner Kristie Tenney, Commissioner of Agriculture Kent Leonhardt, Chancellor W. Va. State’s First Lady Cathy Justice, Justice 2021 W. Va. Strawberry Festival Queen Caylie Simmons, Justice W. Va. Strawberry Festival King JD Born, and President of W. Va. Strawberry Festival Shane Jenkins.

Following was the 2022 W. Va. Strawberry Festival Junior Royalty Court, including Hostess Princesses Breanna Morgan and Katherine Tenney, 2022 WVSF Second Maid Katie Hitt, 2022 WVSF Jr. Teen Queen Madison Burnside, 2022 WVSF Mrs. Queen Kari Beth Park, 2022 WVSF Ms. Queen Susie Potter.

Next was the 2022 WVSF Teen Queen’s Court, including Second Maid Grace Snider, First Maid Nine Mae Grace Coberly, and 2022 WVSF Teen Queen Cadence Ringer. Then 2022 WVSF King’s Minor Court proceeded followed by 2022 WVSF King Elect Franklin Bush Jr., 2022 WVSF Queens Minor Court proceeded, followed by 2022 WVSF Queen Elect Kelsey Hill.

The program followed, including the invocation led by Pastor Ed McDaniels. Then Mayor Robbie Skinner presented the King and Queen with keys to the city. Upshur County Commission President Kristie Tenney led the oath of office, 2021 WVSF Queen Caylie Simmons and 2021 WVSF King JD Born presented the Mantels of Office. WVSF President Shane Jenkins led the presentation of the Royal Scepters.

W. Va. Department of Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt crowning of the King while W. Va. State’s First Lady Cathy Justice crowned of the Queen. The Blessing and Presentation of the Berries was led by Pastor Ed McDaniels and King Franklin Bush Jr. Kiara Williams and Adam Moyer of Key to Adam gave the Presentation of the Song and the Benediction closed the program, given by Pastor Ed McDaniels.

Oath Bearer: Timber Alderman from Rock Cave Elementary School

Scepter Bearer: Brody Hosaflook from Buckhannon Academy Elementary School

Crown Bearer: Sawyer Garrett from Hodgesville Elementary School

Fruit Bearer: Ethan Able from Tennerton Elementary School

Jr. Guard Zendrick Smith from Union Elementary School

Honorary Prince: Harlen Meadows Union Elementary School

The Queen’s Court included the following:

Oath Bearer: Breanna Carpenter from Rock Cave Elementary School

Scepter Bearer: Keturah Hogan from Buckhannon Academy Elementary School

Flower Girl: Kaylee Daft from Washington District Elementary School

Flower Girl: Shaelyn Smith from Union Elementary School

Honorary Princess: Hadley Spencer from Buckhannon Academy Elementary School
