BUCKHANNON — With less than 3 weeks remaining until the 79th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival, their Board of Directors met Tuesday evening to continue finalizing details surrounding the highly anticipated event.
During the meeting, the board reiterated their plans to keep facilities and places of contact sanitized and socially distanced throughout the festival. As health and safety is their main concern, the WVSF Board members plan to diligently do their part to ensure a pleasant and safe experience for those attending the celebration. They are continuing to establish lines and boundaries to keep everyone at a safe distance, while still enjoying the countless events and activities.
Board members sadly announced the cancellation of this year’s Strawberry Mile Run on Tuesday evening, with a tentative option to possibly reschedule the race for the fall. More decisions regarding the matter will be published in the future as the WVSF Board continues finalizing their plans moving forward.
In addition to the schedule of events, the Strawberry Festival will include an afternoon dedicated to children and families on Friday, May 14. As children do not have school that day, they may enjoy hours of free games, karaoke, a photo booth, and so much more at Jawbone Park. The family event will also showcase several special guests during the tentative time of 1-5 p.m.
Live entertainment scheduled for Jawbone Park has been booked in full, as the WVSF Board plans to bring great live music for everyone in attendance. In addition to area bands, the B-UHS Concert Band and the B-UHS Jazz Band scheduled performances of their own to showcase the talent of local youth.
The WVSF Junior Royalty Revue Pageant is scheduled for this Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as 28 children will showcase their personalities, as well as their excitement for the festival at the Way of Holiness Church.
WVSF President Shane Jenkins and the Board discussed fundraising events, as well as events for the public to get more involved. There will be more information provided in the future, announcing details for the Pet Show, Poker Run, Gun Raffles, etc.
In addition, the available slots for vendor applications have almost been filled. With plans for nearly 30 vendors, festival goers will have the opportunity to experience and shop from a variety of unique businesses in attendance. Information is being collected to pass out to the vendors, getting the owners up to date and ensuring the days run smoothly. All members are looking forward to a successful 79th Annual WV Strawberry Festival.
