Wrestling Bucs go 3-0 at Nicholas County

SUMMERSVILLE – The Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling Bucs wrapped up their dual season competition last Wednesday at Nicholas County Hight School.

And they wrapped up in fine fashion going 3-0 against Nicholas County, Midland Trail and Woodrow Wilson.

The Bucs defeated Nicholas County by a 46-27 score, downed Midland Trail by a 60-6 count and outlasted Woodrow Wilson by a 39-21 score.

The 3-0 mark left the Buccaneers with an 18-16 dual match record.

Six Buccaneers posted perfect 3-0 marks.

Aidan Wilson (113 pounds), Julius Hobbs (126), Breagan Pearson (145), Luke Bohnsack (152), Jacob Smithson (170) and Alex Bennett (220) all finished the outing with unblemished records.

Nathan Cornett (132) and Tucker Hurst (138) both went 2-1 while Nick Ray (160) and Todd Cutlip (285) compiled 1-2 marks.

“The boys were wrestling really well and firing on all cylinders at Summersville,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jacob Orr. “We put on a dominant performance. As we come into the postseason, it’s time to refocus on what our end of year goals are.”

The Bucs were slated to compete in the Brooke Classic on Saturday.

They will return to the mat Friday and Saturday in the Big 10 Championships at Lincoln High School.
