Woman faces neglect charges

HODGESVILLE — Jocelyn Krum, age 25 of Buckhannon, is currently housed at Tygart Valley Regional Jail (TVRJ) on suspected child neglect charges following an incident Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Deputy Mike Coffman, along with deputies Dakotah Linger and Tanner Collins, responded to a possible domestic dispute after multiple 911 hang-up calls. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man and woman, who they immediately separated.

During the investigation, deputies discovered the defendant, later identified as Krum, to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

While impaired, the defendant believed her 1-year-old child was not breathing. This led to the defendant performing CPR chest compression on the child. However, upon arrival, Upshur County EMS examined and confirmed the child did not require medical attention. When asked why CPR was performed, the defendant stated that she “did it because the child’s eyes were not dilating.”

The defendant was charged with child abuse creating risk of serious injury or death. Krum was transported to TVRJ to await arraignment.
