Wolfgang Hubert Flor

TENNERTON — Wolfgang Hubert Flor, 89, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.  He was born in Naumburg, Selesia, Germany on Jan. 29, 1928, a son of the late Arthur and Elisabeth Hurney Flor.  He is survived by his wife, Marie Luise Busz Flor, of Rock Cave.  Also surviving are two daughters:  Veronica and husband James Grant and Ulrika Browning; three grandchildren:  Jacob and Isabella Grant and Rachel Browning; and one sister, Waltraud Heesing, of Germany.

Mr. Flor was self-educated and came to West Virginia to follow the dream of his life, wood sculpturing.   Wolfgang’s work is displayed in many places, including churches and private homes.  He carved the college seal of West Virginia Wesleyan College as well as the 12 apostles and family tree which are displayed in Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan.  His piece, “Integration,” is displayed at the Twin Tower at West Virginia University.  His works are also displayed at Glenville State College in Glenville, the West Virginia Culture and History Center in Charleston, and numerous other places in West Virginia and across the country. 

Mr. Flor was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Buckhannon.

At the request of the deceased, the body will be cremated.   A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 35 Franklin St., Buckhannon, WV, with Rev.
