Whitehair and Herron blank Elkins in 1-0 Buckhannon win

ELKINS – Logan Whitehair and Andrew Herron teamed up on the mound to pitch a shutout over the Elkins Tigers Tuesday evening in a 1-0 victory for the Bucs.

Whitehair went five innings and earned the win allowing just two hits and striking out four.

Herron tossed two-innings of no-hit ball to close out the game and earn the save.

“Logan did an excellent job on the mound,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Adam Squires. “He kept hitters off balance and didn’t really get hit hard all evening. Andrew also did an excellent job in relief as he has all season long.”

The lone run of the game came in the second inning for the Bucs.

Herron started the inning with an infield single and then stole second base.

He came home on a single by Casey Hamner.

An error on a ball hit by Jeremy Cogar put runners on the corners for Elkins with one out and courtesy runner Joey Satterfield stole second putting both runners in scoring position.

Herron had Remmington Stanly pop up to Alek Seech for the second out and Tyler Davis ground out to Cole Hoover to for the final out of the inning.

The Bucs put runners at first and second in the top of the seventh but were unable to chase across a run.

Herron sat the Tigers down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bucs had four hits with Nick Calef-Boring, Hoover, Herron and Hamner each getting one.
