PHILIPPI —  Trahern White drove in five runs to back a solid pitching effort from Logan Bailey as the Buckhannon-Upshur baseball team cruised past Philip Barbour, 12-1, in six innings Monday in Big 10 Conference play.
The Bucs, coming off a 6-4 setback at Class AA, No. 1 Bridgeport the day before, are now 7-5 overall and 5-2 in Big 10 plays. They were scheduled to host Lewis County on Thursday evening.
White, a senior first baseman, finished with three hits, including a two-run double in the first inning that gave B-U the lead for good.
Fellow senior Dalton Marple, who had three hits on the day, added a pair of hits and two RBIs and Alek Seech two hits. Andrew Herron also was credited with an RBI.
Bailey, meanwhile, went six innings to earn the win, fanning six. Seech worked the sixth inning.
Conner Setchell took the loss in five innings of work. He struck out three.
The Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in Tuesday’s game at Bridgeport when White’s groundout plated Seech.
The Indians, however, took a 2-1 lead in the home-half of the frame on Koby Kiefer’s single and a double steal.
B-U answered in the fourth on Bailey’s two-run single to regain a 3-2 advantage.
But Bridgeport tacked on two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead for good.
Marple added an RBI single in the sixth to account for the Bucs’ final run.
Sophomore Tim Phillips was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on just two hits in 3 2/3 innings.  He fanned two but was plagued by seven walks.
Casey Hamner finished in relief, surrendering two runs on three hits and walking two.
