West Virginia State American Legion Tournament to begin today at Potomac State


KEYSER – The 2019 West Virginia American Legion State Tournament is set to get underway today at Potomac State College.

Area IV’s Romney Post 91 will serve as the host team of the double-elimination tournament.

The tournament will feature the state’s five Area champions — Wheeling Post 1 (Area I, 25-8), Morgantown (Area II, 29-7), South Charleston Post 94 (Area III, 27-9-1), Romney Post 91 (Area IV, 28-8) Elkins Post 29 (Area V, 26-15) and Area IV runner-up Berkley County Post 14 (19-8).

Berkley County and South Charleston will begin play in the state tournament today at 10 a.m.

Elkins will battle Morgantown at 1 p.m. and Wheeling and Romney will conclude opening day play at 4 p.m.

The title game is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. with the ‘if’ game slated for 3 p.m.

West Virginia will crown a new champion this year as defending champion Parkersburg was eliminated in the Area III tournament.

The West Virginia state champion will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Regional competition begins Wednesday, August 7.

There are currently 22 American Legion baseball teams in the state of West Virginia.

Game 2 – Morgantown vs. Elkins, 1 p.m.

Game 3 – Wheeling vs. Romney, 4 p.m.

Thursday, August 1

Game 4 – Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 10 a.m.

Game 5 – Winner of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 3, 1 p.m.

Game 6 – Winner of Game 2 vs. Winner of Game 3, 4 p.m.

Friday, August 2

Game 7 – 10 a.m.

Game 8 – 1 p.m.

Game 9 – 4 p.m.

Saturday, August 3

Game 10 – Championship, 12 p.m.

Game 11 (if necessary) – 3 p.m.
