Wesleyan puts three players in doubles figures as they defeat Urbana, 73-65

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan placed three players in double figures as they earned a hard-fought 73-65 decision over the visiting Urbana Blue Knights Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference action.

Dusan Vicentic led the charge with 22 players while Daylin Lee came off the bench with 15 points and Clay Todd added 14.

With Wesleyan down 6-5 early, they went on a 9-0 run capped off by a Vicentic basket in the paint for a 14-6 lead.

A Cameron Ramage jumper in the paint kept Wesleyan ahead by eight, at 24-16, with 6:10 remaining in the first half.

Wesleyan’s Anthony Garcia made a free throw right before the half to give the Bobcats a 29-25 lead at the intermission.

Nursing a 36-35 advantage, Wesleyan went on a 10-2 run for a 45-37 lead with 12:51 remaining in the contest.

A three-pointer by Todd pushed the Wesleyan lead up to 14, at 55-41, with 8:38 left in the game.

A 12-2 run by Urbana narrowed the Wesleyan lead down to four, at 57-53, with 6:02 remaining.

An old-fashioned three-point play and a step-back three by Lee extended the lead to 10 for Wesleyan, at 63-53, with four minutes remaining.

Urbana couldn’t get any closer than six points in the final four minutes.

Wesleyan shot the ball at an impressive 55.3 percent hitting on 26 of their 47 field goals.

Jordan Bradley led Urbana with 20 points while Tehree Horn tallied 15.

Urbana dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the MEC.

Wesleyan improved to 3-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

The Bobcats will play again Saturday when they visit Notre Dame College for a 4 p.m. tip.
