BUCKHANNON — Following last week’s Mountain East Conference announcement stating the removal of non-conference matchups for fall sports in 2020, the West Virginia Wesleyan football team will no longer be making their opening trip to West Florida on September 3.
Instead, the 2020 season will begin September 12 in North Carolina as the Bobcats will travel to UNC Pembroke for the Braves' first-ever game in the MEC.
UNC Pembroke begin play as an affiliate member of the MEC this season, and the two teams last met in 2008 (1-1 all time).
Included in the schedule changes for 2020 is a matchup against Alderson Broaddus in Philippi on October 24th.
Alderson Broaddus was accepted as the 12th full member of the MEC just last week, and they replace now-closed Urbana University.
In their admittance to the conference, AB asked to begin play immediately in 2020, and have taken over Urbana's football schedule.
This announcement is a welcome change for Bobcats fans, as an old rivalry will be renewed just thirty minutes from Buckhannon.
