BETHANY – Samantha Pappas and Madison Duvall each scored four goals as the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat lacrosse team easily defeated Bethany by a 20-2 score Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
After earning an overtime victory in their opener, the Lady ‘Cats made sure there wasn’t any doubt as they led from start to finish, improving their record to 2-0 on the young season.
“I am extremely proud of the team and our start,” remarked Wesleyan head coach Hannah Lively. “These ladies have been working very hard and it has paid off. We have always had talented individuals and it’s rewarding to see all parts of this machine work together to start the season 2-0.”
Wesleyan scored the first nine goals of the contest by six different players to leave any doubt of the outcome.
Victoria Sisson, Duvall and Pappas each scored twice during the run while Lovely Ordonez-Lopez, Lindsay Penwell and Haley McGuffin each had a goal.
Bethany finally got on the scoreboard at the 8:53 mark with an unassisted goal by Cassidy Mailoux, but Wesleyan closed the half with the final three goals – one each by Duvall, Pappas and Penwell.
That treated Wesleyan to a 12-1 lead at the intermission.
With Lauren Bolen, Ordonez-Lopez, Duvall and Madeline Gorzka each getting a goal to begin the second half, Wesleyan extended their lead to 16-1.
Ayana Crawford scored Bethany’s second goal at the 13:23 mark of the second half to make it a 16-2 game.
Penwell scored just four minutes later for Wesleyan and then McGuffin, Savannah Randolph and Pappas each had a score in the final six minutes of the contest.
