Wesleyan announces 2020 football schedule

BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan football head coach Tony Testa has announced the official schedule for the 2020 season.

The schedule features an opener at defending National Champions West Florida, and ten MEC matchups, five of which will be held on the home turf at Cebe Ross Field.

The 2020 MEC football schedule is dependent upon the timing of the return of the regular academic and athletic calendar for the upcoming fall semester due to COVID-19. Games, dates, times, and locations are subject to change.

The Bobcats will be tested early, traveling down to Pensacola, FL to take on the West Florida Argonauts, who will be defending their 2019 Division II National Championship.

The Argos went on a five-game postseason run to capture their first National Championship in school history.

They play their home games at Blue Wahoos Stadium, home of the Minnesota Twins AA-affiliate Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The season will kick off at 7 p.m. on September 3.

Coach Testa and his 'Cats will play another new opponent in game two, UNC Pembroke, who will be in their first year as an associate member of the Mountain East Conference. The Braves went 4-7 in 2019.

The rest of Wesleyan's MEC Schedule features five home games against Concord, Wheeling, Notre Dame (defending MEC Champions), Charleston, and Frostburg State. The Bobcats defeated Wheeling at home last season 33-19. They will also travel to West Liberty, West Virginia State, Urbana, and will close out the regular season at Glenville State on November 14.

The 2020 Homecoming Game is set for October 3 against Wheeling, and will be the centerpiece of a week of festivities on campus. Kickoff is set for Noon.
