Wesleyan Acrobatics & Tumbling team improves to 2-0 on the season


Will make home debut on Friday vs. Fairmont St.

WEST LIBERTY — The West Virginia Wesleyan Acrobatics & Tumbling team improved to 2-0 in their inaugural season with a victory at West Liberty on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bobcats walked away with a total score of 247.780.

Ending the day with multiple event high scores, Wesleyan made several improvements after the season-opening meet against Davis and Elkins College.

Against the Hilltoppers on Sunday, momentum picked up after the compulsory acro heat where West Liberty outscored the Lady Bobcats. 

In the following compulsory heats, Wesleyan took the lead to end the compulsory event with a 30.25 to the Hilltoppers’ 27.65.

In the acro event, Wesleyan scored a total of 27.35. 

The Lady Bobcats’ seven element acro heat, consisting of freshmen Alexis Smock, Tiara Stokes, Alyssa Keenan and Jimmesha Brothers, received an event high score of 9.35 to end the acro event.

When asked about the performance, head coach Courtney Pate said, “I was very excited to see two of our acro scores improve from last week.  We continue to work on the details, and I hope that it will continue to pay off.”

The Lady Bobcats took each of the pyramid heats, posting an event total of 26.80 to West Liberty’s 25.00.

Following halftime, Wesleyan maintained the lead, skimming by the Hilltoppers in the toss event.  West Liberty scored an event total of 24.70 and the Lady Bobcats came out with a total of 24.90.

In the tumbling event, Wesleyan took each of the six heats, scoring a 49.650.  The event high score in the tumbling event was freshman Nichole Fano’s aerial tumbling pass, scoring a 9.050.

Capping off the night, Wesleyan took the floor for the team event and posted an 88.83 to conclude the meet with a total score of 247.780.

“This past week, we spent a lot of time on team event, and I believe the team executed well in each of the routine’s different segments.” Pate said. “We look forward to working hard in the gym for the next couple weeks as we prepare to host Fairmont State University for our season’s first home meet.”

The Lady Bobcats will host Fairmont State at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.
