BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Arco & Tumbling Team found their way back into the win column Monday evening with a 235.995-231.235 over the visiting West Liberty Hilltoppers in a Mountain East Conference clash at Rockefeller Center.
After an opening season win at Davis & Elkins, the Lady ‘Cats had lost four in a row before Monday’s victory.
Wesleyan earned wins in three of the four compulsory heats taking the acro heat (7.35-6.65), the toss heat (9.60-9.30) and the tumbling heat (7.00-6.25) but dropping the pyramid heat (9.05-8.85).
In the acro heats, Wesleyan took just one of them, the third heat (7.40-6.40).
The Lady ‘Cats lost heat one (9.15-8.95) and heat two (9.05-9.00).
Wesleyan came up just short of making it a clean sweep in the pyramid.
They won the heat one (inversion) by a 9.25-7.00 score and heat two (synchronized) by a 8.90-8.45 score.
They dropped the open heat, 9.25-8.60.
They led at the break by a 84.90-80.55 score.
West Liberty earned a sweep by the narrowest of margins in the toss taking heat one (salto), 8.45-8.40, heat two (synchronized) 8.90-8.45 and the heat three (open), 8.50-8.35.
The tumbling event saw Wesleyan take five of the six passes.
They won the duo (8.050-6.600), the quad (6.850-6.500), the aerial (7.425-7.200) and the 6 element (8.975-8.025) and the open (8.325-8.050).
They lost the triple pass, 7.200-6.700.
Wesleyan was edged in the team event total by a 82.61-80.62 score but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Lady Bobcats in the overall score.
The contest was the final home outing for Wesleyan this season.
They will return to action Saturday when they visit Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. start.
They will then enter the Mountain East Conference championships on Friday, April 12-13 in a yet to be announced location
