Wesleyan acro & tumbling team picked sixth in MEC preseason poll


BRIDGEPORT — Fairmont State has been picked to win the 2021 Mountain East Conference Acrobatics & Tumbling Championship, the league announced today after a vote of the league coaches.

The Falcons finished atop the poll with 36 points, including six first-place votes. Fairmont State returns three seniors and five juniors to the roster in 2021. Alexis Smith returns as a top and tumbler after earning MEC Athlete of the Week honors twice a season ago. The Falcons were off to a 4-0 start in 2020 and ranked as high as No. 7 in the country before the abrupt end to the season.

West Liberty was next in the poll with 31 points and picked up the remaining first-place vote. The Hilltoppers return four athletes who earned All-MEC honors back in 2019, including first-team honoree Theresa Evangelista.

Glenville State is the pick to finish third with 26 points. Davis & Elkins is next with 18 points, followed by Frostburg State (16) and West Virginia Wesleyan (12). Alderson Broaddus

The 2021 MEC Championship will be held April 9-10 on the campus of Fairmont State University.
