Wade receives MEC Athlete of the Week Honors


BRIDGEPORT — Kayla Wade, a standout base/tumbler for the West Virginia Wesleyan College acrobatics & tumbling team, was recognized by the Mountain East Conference as its Athlete of the Week on announced last Friday, March 11. 

 Wade, a fifth-year redshirt senior from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania., garnered athlete of the week honors after putting on a show, as the Bobcats defeated the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus on Sunday, March 6 by a final score of 260.015-146.675. Wade was a major contributor in helping the Bobcats set a new program record in total points scored at Sunday’s meet.

 In the Compulsory event, the Bobcats scored above a 9.0 in all three heats. Wade served as a key cog in her role as the base in the compulsory pyramid event, then as a mid in the compulsory toss event. Wade was an integral part of the dominant pyramid teams, which scored over at least 9.5 points over the span of three heats. In the third heat of the Acro event, Wade again found herself in the role of base, helping her team execute at a high-level to record a score an 8.8.

 In the toss event, Wade helped the Bobcats post a score of 9.7 in the first heat and then a 9.05 in the synch toss. Knowing how to wrap up the meet in style, Wade helped the Bobcats record their highest team event score of so far this season, posting an 89.74 in the final event.
