BUCKHANNON — The Donut Shop’s pepperoni rolls are in yet another contest to see which roll will come out on top in the Mountain State.

Currently ranked at number two in a USA Today contest for the best pepperoni roll, The Donut Shop could earn the number one accolade if enough votes come through by the Feb. 27 deadline.

Lilly Bragg, a staff person at The Donut Shop, attributes the pepperoni roll’s appeal to the homemade touches the staff puts in.

“We make our dough from scratch every day and we just put the right amount of pepperoni in it,” she said.  “They are just so good.”

The description in the contest reads, “Unlike other rolls in the state, The Donut Shop’s pepperoni rolls use shredded pepperoni instead of sliced (and they don’t skimp on it either) and melted cheese.”

Staff make rolls starting early in the morning and that could be anywhere from 85 to 300 depending on the demand.

“Every day we try to build up to 300 pepperoni rolls,” she said.

The Donut Shop also fills large orders but asks that you call at 304-472-9328  for advance orders.

The business and others in the community are encouraging people to vote by visiting www.10best.com or a direct link at bit.ly/2kBcOOO.

“We know we have the best, we just have to get the people to tell them we have the best,” Bragg said.

The JRs Donut Castle in Parkersburg is in the lead. The top 10, so far, also includes Dragon Mart in Cameron, Boggs Pizza and Grill in Middlebourne, Tomaro’s Bakery in Clarksburg, Pasco’s Pizza in New Martinsville, Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, D’annunzio’s in Clarksburg and Home Industry Bakery in Clarksburg.
