WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs dropped a hard-fought three-set decision to Robert L. Bland’s Lady Patriots here last Tuesday night in varsity volleyball action.
They lost the first set by a 25-10 margin, but scrapped back to record a 25-18 verdict. They fell in the finale, 25-16.
“We are still struggling with moving to the ball and communicating,” remarked coach Sheena Westfall. “Ella McNeish gave a solid performance with her serving and setting. Alyssa Abel really stepped up at the net and was taking control with her hits, and that’s something we have been waiting for.
“Grace Snider helped out on the defensive end with her serve receives and digs.
“These girls are more than capable of winning. We just have to get better at a few small things, and they need to buy into what is being asked of them.”
McNeish racked up a team-high six aces, with Abel canning three, Chloe Brown netting two, and Kendall Bohnsack and Kendall Defibaugh adding one each.
Abel led in kills with five, with McNeish connecting for four, Defibaugh contributing two and Brown adding one.
Snider and Bohnsack had seven digs apiece, Abel and Hodge’nay Henderson each had six, Brown and Ella Jeran had three each, McNeish had two and Defibaugh had one,
McNeish recorded eight assists.
The Little Lady Bucs fell to 0-3. They will go to Elkins tonight to battle the Lady Green Hornets, and will entertain Belington’s Lady Hawks Tuesday night.
