Volleyball Lady Bobcats fall to Davis & Elkins, 3-0

ELKINS – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team was competitive in all three sets against the Davis & Elkins Senators in a road Mountain East Conference clash Tuesday evening at the McDonnell Center.

They still came up short however as they dropped a 3-0 decision.

They lost the sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-20.

The first set was deadlocked early at 5-5 but Wesleyan went on a 10-3 run for a 15-8 advantage.

With Wesleyan up 17-12, Davis & Elkins scored five straight to even the score at 17-17.

The game remained tied at 21-21, but Davis & Elkins scored four of the final five points for the win.

Set two saw Davis & Elkins take a 6-4 lead, but Wesleyan ran off four straight points to take an 8-6 lead.

A kill by Jenny Lundy gave Wesleyan a 9-8 advantage, but D&E scored five straight for a 13-9 advantage and they never gave the lead back to the Lady Bobcats as they went on for the seven-point win.

Wesleyan grabbed a 6-2 lead early in set three, but again  D&E made a run scoring six straight points for an 8-6 advantage.

A kill by Lundy ended the run and made it an 8-7 contest but again Wesleyan couldn’t get any closer.

With Davis & Elkins at match point, at 24-17, Wesleyan scored the next three points to close it to 24-20, but a service error by Wesleyan gave the victory to the Senators.

Wesleyan didn’t record an ace in the setback.

Jenny Lundy paced Wesleyan’s attack with 17 kills and 11 digs.

Payton Hefner had a team-high 17 assists.

Davis & Elkins improved to 17-8 overall and 10-4 in the MEC.

They were led by Luann O’Kane who served up two aces and Kaitlyn LaCour who had nine kills.

The loss was the 10th in a row for the Lady ‘Cats.

They dropped their record to 5-21 overall and 2-10 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will end their campaign this weekend.

They will travel to West Virginia State tonight for a 7 p.m. conference tip and then visit Charleston Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. league tip.
