BUCKHANNON – It was another rough weekend for the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team in a pair of home matches.
On Friday night, they hosted Fairmont State on Senior Night and dropped the outing to the Falcons in straight sets --- 25-10, 25-15 and 25-16.
On Saturday morning, the took Frostburg State to four sets, but still lost a 3-1 decision.
In their final home game of the regular season, they dropped the first two sets by 25-19 and 25-22 scores after losing early leads but came back to dominate the third set by a 25-11 score. They lost the fourth set by a 25-19 count.
The pair of losses ran their losing streak to nine games.
They haven’t won a contest since beating Salem in a non-conference affair back on Oct. 15.
Fairmont State never let Wesleyan get into any sets in their sweep as Wesleyan never had a lead at any point.
Wesleyan failed to serve up any aces in the loss.
Jenny Lundy paced the Lady ‘Cats in kills with seven and digs with six.
Payton Hefner had a team-best 10 assists while Joelle Lalla led the team with three blocks.
The five seniors that were honored on Friday night were Ariel Walker, Savannah Hoffman, Morgan Johnson, Hannah Jones and Madison Cooper.
Wesleyan shook of the Fairmont State loss from the night before for a solid start Saturday morning taking a 14-9 lead.
Frostburg Stat scored seven of the next eight points for a 16-15 lead.
A kill by Lundy gave the lead back to Wesleyan at 19-18, but Frostburg State scored the final six points for the win.
In the second set, Wesleyan held a commanding 22-15 lead but again couldn’t finish the set off.
Frostburg State scored the final 10 points of the set to take it by a 25-22 score.
Wesleyan controlled action in set three as they never trailed.
Up 10-6, the Lady ‘Cats reeled off 11 straight points for a 21-6 advantage.
A kill by Lauryn Antolock secured the win for the Lady Bobcats as they won the set, 25-11.
The final set was tied at 13-13, but Frostburg State scored four of the next five points for a 17-14 lead.
Wesleyan couldn’t get any closer as they dropped the set by six points.
The Lady ‘Cats served up 13 aces with Lundy collecting five.
Lundy also led them in kills with 16.
Hefner had a team-best 18 assists while Abigail Anderson had a team-high 17 digs.
Wesleyan is now 5-20 overall and 2-11 in the MEC.
The Lady ‘Cats will return to action Tuesday at Davis & Elkins College.
The MEC contest will begin at 7 p.m.
