Vincent sets new mark again in 50-yard freestyle for Lady Bucs in 2021 debut

Cadence Vincent

MORGANTOWN – Sophomore Cadence Vincent broke her own personal, school and state record in the 50-yard freestyle for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc swim team in their debut Wednesday in a tri-meet with University and Morgantown at the Mylan Aquatic Center.

Vincent swam a time of 23.49, beating her mark in the state championships by 0.20 seconds at 23.69.

She also took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.39. That time would have won a state title last year as Victoria Kidney from John Marshall won the state title with a time of 57.60.

Cameron Zuliani picked up the other individual first place for the Lady Bucs taking the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.54.

The two B-U relay teams were also victorious.

The foursome of Vincent, Alayna Whitehair, Zuliani and McKenzie Reynolds won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.83 while that same foursome took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a clocking of 3:55.95.

The state allowed the tri-meet to occur instead of a dual meet because of the size of the Mylan Aquatic Center.

“Because of the size of the facility, the WVSSAC gave permission for University and Morgantown to swim us simultaneously,” explained B-U head coach Will Squires.

In the team scores against the two larger teams, the Lady Bucs lost to Morgantown by a 137-85 score and University by a 101-96 score.

“We had a great meet, with nearly every single swimmer hitting personal best times or close to their best,” stated Squires. “For our first meet of the season, I am very excited to see what we can do in just over a month's worth of swimming left. As a team of considerably smaller size compared to the Morgantown teams, we managed to win multiple events and relays. Overall, it was great to be back and competing, and it's always good for our swimmers to experience the Mylan Aquatic Center before the State Meet.”

The Lady Bucs will be back in action this Thursday hosting Elkins in a dual outing at the West Virginia Wesleyan pool.
