BUCKHANNON — The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3663 announced their officers for the 2022-2023 year. The Annual Elections for Officers took place on Monday, April 11. Additionally, the VFW Post 3663 would like to recognize Vietnam War Veteran, Gary Reed. Reed took an oath of service to the Post as a three-year trustee on Monday, May 9, 2022. These events took place at the VFW in Buckhannon, W. Va. on South Kanawha Street.
On Monday, April 11, members elected officers for 2022-23 during the Annual Elections for Officers. At the District meeting which was held at Post 3663 the elected officers were sworn in by W.Va. VFW State Commander Jeff Elkins. The oath did take place while conducting the Post’s monthly meeting held on the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. The ceremony was preceded by the District 3 quarterly meeting. Sandwiches and Soup was served prior to the meeting. There were 75 members present from the VFW Post located within District 3.
The new officers bring an enthusiasm to the post and to the community. Commander elect Rex Stalnaker stated “VFW Post 3663 Buckhannon is looking forward to working within our community to serve our veteran population. We are excited about many upcoming events to bring awareness about our post and our services.” The new command and members hope to revitalize the posts activities in the community and ensure local veterans know they are there to help when they need it.
The Post’s next event is the 80th Annual West Virginia Strawberry Festival. The post will be open Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21. Concessions will be available from noon to 7 p.m. The community is invited to come in and enjoy Sloppy Joes, hot dogs, chips, drinks, strawberry shortcake and chocolate covered strawberries.
