TENNERTON – Eight players are moving up from last year’s junior varsity squad to jump-start the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School varsity Little Bucs in the 2018-19 basketball campaign.
The veterans are guards Zach Calef-Boring, Chase Spencer, Ian Donnen and Keyton Lanier; forwards Mark Hurst, Shawn Blandino and Zade Woody, and center Josh Nesbitt.
Rounding out the 12-man roster are Gage Rachella (G), Jason Clem (F), Ely Cain (C) and Wade Nesbitt (F).
“It was a tough tryout process,” remarked coach Tyke Foster. “We had around 60 athletes come out and cutting down to 24 was a difficult task. These boys have worked hard in the off-season with the high school coaches to improve their skill sets.
“I have also worked with the high school coaches to ensure that we are running the same system at the middle school level. This will aid the transition to the high school and improve the whole basketball program.”
The Little Buccaneers will tip off the season Thursday and Friday in the B-UMS Kick-off Tournament. Joining the Little Bucs will be Elkins, Robert L. Bland and Washington Irving.
