BUCKHANNON — The Second Annual Upshur Youth Art Exhibit received a significant turnout on opening night, with an estimated 150 visitors on Saturday evening. Upshur County Schools will continue presenting this county-wide art exhibition highlighting the work of 101 local students at the Colonial Theatre Gallery every Friday and Saturday during the month of April from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Student artwork is currently on display from a variety of grade levels and schools. The art on display showcases paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and more. This fine art exhibition is free and open to the public and makes the second time that Upshur County students have had the opportunity to participate in a county-wide exhibition featuring their own artwork.
The artwork on display was selected by local art teachers in effort to showcase a variety of grades, mediums and subject matter, explained Heidi Thompson, lead organizer of the event and Fine Art Department Chair at Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Thompson added, “I would encourage our community to come out and support our young artists. You can see firsthand the talent and dedication of both students and teachers in this colorful and exciting exhibition.”
This exhibition was made possible through the collaboration of the City of Buckhannon, Art 26201, and Upshur County Schools’ Art Teachers.
