BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Trails group has rewards ready for upcoming volunteer opportunities to help maintain and improve their ever-increasing trail mileage.
The current maintenance of the trail system is completed solely by volunteers. This volunteer work in necessary for the trail system to continue to exist, explained Upshur County Trails group member and volunteer, Rachel Garton Weber. The group strongly encourages trail users to consider volunteering during these public volunteer opportunities. These public work days will be held on Saturday, July 24 and Saturday, August 21, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
As a reward and “thank you,” the Upshur County Trails group is giving away an Upshur County Trails pint glass for any volunteers who achieve 10 hours of service. For those physically unable or lack available time to assist, a pint glass will also be available for those who make donations over $100 towards the ongoing maintenance of the trails.
For updates regarding the trails or to view photos of the wildlife along the way, visit their Facebook page “Upshur County Trails.” Weber noted the trails have been receiving a great deal of attention recently and they’re closing in on 1,000 followers on their Facebook page. Once they hit their 1,000th follower, the group is planning a gift drawing for one of the followers. The group also recently applied for another Try This WV mini grant and will hear if they received it by the end of June.
Upshur County Trails t-shirts will also be available in the near future, as Joey’s Bike Shop in Elkins recently placed an order for Upshur County Trails t-shirts in a variety of colors and sizes. Stay tuned on their Facebook page for the release of the shirts.
To improve and maintain one of Upshur County’s main attractions, hit the trails and help a worthy cause on July 24 and August 21.
