Upshur STARS recognized at BOE

BUCKHANNON  Upshur County STARS were recognized at the Board of Education (BOE) meeting held on Tuesday, January 11 at Tennerton Elementary School.

The BOE often recognize faculty, staff and students as Upshur County STARS at many of their meetings. On Tuesday, multiple Tennerton faculty and staff were recognized for outstanding efforts, including School Nurse Amanda Ray, First Grade Literacy Aid Terri Egress, Physical Education Teacher Meredith Ratliff, Substitute Teacher Jane Fultz, First Grade teachers Christy Gaudet and Allyson Stewart, Second Grade teachers Jeanie Allen and Samantha Brown, Title 1 Laura O’Hara and Secretary Samantha Bennett.

Students with different outstanding performances were also recognized during the meeting. Dayla Weatherholt was recognized for her kindness, after multiple faculty and staff members reported Weatherholt paying her classmates compliments for various reasons. The Board of Education recognized Jazmin Davis, Morgan Rowan, Oliver Morehead, Kinzlee Johnson, Lain Patterson, Felix Lynch, Hadley Spencer, Maci Snyder, Melody Patron, Hudsyn Orr, Mason Kessell, Jace Foster, Hannah Davis and Bentley Curtis all for their work and growth in their reading classes. These kids had a 30% or more of growth from beginning of the year. Students Brooklyn Butler and Brooks Tucker were also recognized for their excellence in the classroom. Their performance ranked them in the 98 percentile in math. Hazel Malone was recognized as the West Virginia Young Writers classroom winner. Recyclers Hayden Anderson, Shannon Cartwright, Lincoln Darnell and Kason Davis were also recognized for their hard work.

Some other students recognized included Daphne Beaudry, Maggie O’Neill, Baylor Radcliff, Lain Patterson, as well as student council members Aaliyah Lothes, Jaxson McDaniels, Zef Bednarski, Hazel Malone, Hayden Anderson, Janessa Smith, Jackson Richards, Maggie O’Neill, Elenor Nuttall, Lily Rice, Madi Bennett and Sydney Hodges.

During the meeting, BOE members also recognized the fantastic efforts of the Buckhannon-Upshur High School E-Sports Team. The team, led by Head Coach Anthony McDaniels, has excelled to the national level in competition. The players recognized included Joshua Gregory, Eddie Burnside, Kaiden McDaniels, Cameron Ervin, Dylan Rowan, Jacob Ham, Dylan Metz, Brett Mackey, Hailey Stout, Tyler Hobbs, Nathaniel Russell, Landon McLean, Robert Peterson, Ryan Cain, Chris Wetzel, Cory Seech, Deron Moffett, Payton Depew, Conner Zastawniak, Jordan James, Brody Bouscher, Zaid Scott, Brodie Triplett, Jaydon McLean, Matthew Blankenship, Isaac Mullens and Logan Murphy.

Upshur STARS are recognized for many reasons and are often nominated by teachers and peers.
