BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County resident was arrested following a traffic stop that occurred on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
According to court documentation, Buckhannon Police Sergeant Dewaine Linger was sitting stationary on Route 20 in Upshur County near McDonalds when the defendant, later identified as 38-year-old Collin Evan Reed, came speeding by in a white Volkswagen Golf.
The criminal complaint states Sgt. Linger did not radar Reed, but with experience, would estimate that he was allegedly doing around 55mph in a 35mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop and making contact with the defendant, it was found that he allegedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.
Sgt. Linger had Reed exit the vehicle and administered the three standard field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed. The officer then gave him the Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which he also failed with a (.133). Sgt. Linger placed Reed under arrest and transported him to the holding cell to administer the Intoximeter that he also failed with a (.120).
Reed was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a misdemeanor charge for first offense Driving Under the Influence. His bond was set at $2,500 cash or surety. Since his arrest, Reed has been released from custody.
