After months of preparation, UCSBL’s long anticipated 2022 season kicked off its biggest season yet this past Monday, June 27 with three games. Among the changes this Summer, will impact the on-court play, as games will feature the “Elam Ending,” was largely popularized by the #TBT $1-million-dollar tournament, which ensures that every game will end on a game-winner.

The On Point Athletics team got their season off to a strong start as the UCSBL’s first day, earning wins in both games of their opening day doubleheader. In game one, On Point beat CP Imagery by a score of 59-49 behind excellent games from Ryan and Lamar Hurst, who each poured in 15 points apiece, with Josh Trent joined them in double figures with 12 points of his own. While the CP Imagery team couldn’t quite get it going offensively as a collective unit in this one, Tom Wood did lead all scorers with 19 points with Storm Workman joining him in double figures by chipping in 10 points.

In game two of their opening day doubleheader, the On Point Athletics beat the American Mineral team by a score of 80-55. The Hursts provided their typical scoring punch with 12 and 11 points, respectively, but the On Point team was paced by efficient scoring outings from Trent and Mitchell Price who poured in 13 points apiece. The American Mineral team, paced by a trio of Keefe Kiser, Ben Riley, and Skyler Carlton; dropped their first game of the Summer against very stern competition. Kiser led the team in scoring, netting 12 points in the loss, while Riley scored 9 and Carlton scored 8.

In the third and final game on Monday, the KBAM Builders team edged out the Strategy IT in the closest opening day game, by a score of 73-64. The trio of Jaydn Stewart, Garrett Hamrick, and Nate Smarr led the KBAM Builders to the close win. Stewart led the trio by scoring 21 points, while Hamrick scored 19, and Smarr scored 15. In spite of the loss, Cordell Nicola led all scorers on day one, netting 30 points for the Strategy IT team, with Zach Dean scoring 12 points and Emily Stoller chipping in 8 points.
