BUCKHANNON — On Wednesday, April 20 at approximately 5:02 a.m. the Upshur County Sherriff’s Office responded to a toe-vehicle crash on Route 20 North near the intersection of Shumaker Road. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a 2018 International dump truck had lost control and collided with a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The Toyota was traveling northbound while the International was traveling southbound. Fire units on the scene used the jaws of life to extricate both drivers. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the International truck was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The names of the individuals that were involved will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation. The Public Service Commission Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division is also investigating the accident. The Buckhannon Fire Department, the Warren District Fire Department, the Upshur County EMS and the Department of Highways also responded to the scene.
On Wednesday, April 27 Richard “Rick” Marple, 71 of Hackers Creek, Upshur County, W. V. was arrested for the fatal crash that occurred on April 20, 2022 resulting in the death of Larry Green, 63 of Buckhannon. Marple was taken into custody without incident at his residence. He was transported to Upshur County Magistrate Court where he appeared before Magistrate Alan Suder. Marple was arraigned for the charge of Negligent Homicide. Magistrate Suder set bond at $50,000.00.
