BUCKHANNON — On Friday, July 29, Buckhannon Toyota presented a generous donation to the Upshur Parish House. The $3,000 check is a gift in support of the backpacks and school supply program. Buckhannon Toyota’s General Manager Kip Cottrill said the dealership wanted to help with a donation. “We just want to give back to the community and this is a great way to do so.”
The Parish House anticipates distributing backpacks filled with homework supplies and hygiene items to approximately 900 Upshur students during the distribution dates of August 8 to 11, 2022.
Director of the Parish House, Kristi Wilkerson gratefully expressed, “We are truly grateful for this amazing gift to our backpack program. It helped us secure the rest of the items needed to be able to provide 900 backpacks filled with school supplies this year. As we all know, prices have gone up and we found backpacks were particularly hard to find this year and much more expensive than usual. The donation from Buckhannon Toyota came at the perfect time and insured that all Upshur students who need a new backpack for school will get one. We also deeply appreciate everyone in our community who supports this program - churches, businesses, civic organizations, families and individuals - it takes a village to do this each year and we cannot say thank you enough.”
Backpack distribution dates are as follows:
• Monday, August 8 from 2 to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday and Wednesday, August 9 and 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
• Thursday, August 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Banks District Fire Department in Rock Cave
