BUCKHANNON — One Upshur County man was arrested and faces a pair of charges after officers were called to the scene of a violent domestic call on Tuesday, April 19.
According to court documentation, Buckhannon City Police Sergeant Mark Stewart responded to a call for an active domestic disturbance on South Florida Street in Buckhannon. Upon arriving on the scene, Sgt. Stewart found a female victim bent over on the sidewalk with visible injuries. When approaching the victim, she stated that her male relative, later identified as the defendant, Benjamin Wolfgang Workman, age 28 of Buckhannon, had struck her in the head and began attacking a second female victim.
The criminal complaint stated that, upon entering the residence, Sgt. Stewart witnessed the previously mentioned second victim with visible marks in the front and back of her neck. These marks were obvious signs of strangulation. The second victim, also a relative of Workman, stated he had allegedly been drinking before an argument broke out. The victim stated the defendant allegedly grabbed her throat when the other victim attempted to break up the altercation, resulting in her being thrown to the ground.
The defendant was arrested and is facing charges of Strangulation and Domestic Battery. Workman is currently held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail with a $40,000 cash only bond.
