UES hosts Storybook Forest

BUCKHANNON — Storybook Forest-Celebrations Around the World was held at Union Elementary School (UES) on Thursday, December 16 from 5 to 6 p.m.

All classes chose to study a country or region and an author to use as inspiration for decorating their Christmas tree. Pre-K through fifth grade created 15 beautiful trees, as well as one (#35014) Girl Scout tree.

Approximately 200 people attended the educational walk-through experience of beautifully decorated Christmas trees inside the school. UES’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) paid for Sweetie the Ice Cream Truck from Sweet-A-Licious to attend. The truck gave out 144 ice cream sweets to the students and their families.

UES Principal Carol Clay, faculty and staff gave out books to all the students, while children had the opportunity to create and decorate ornaments to take home after the walk-through.

“Making ornaments with 27 girls from kindergarten through seventh grade is interesting, fun and very loud,” noted Girl Scout Leader Mrs. Jannie Hoover. “I enjoyed listening to them talk and laugh as they worked on their ornaments and the look of accomplishment on their faces when they finished. It was priceless. We couldn’t have done it without the help from our other leaders. Thank you!”

Trees displayed throughout the school include:

Greenland tree - Mrs. Sabrina Perkins, pre-k

Canada tree - Donna Phillips and Ronna Smallridge, kindergarten

Australia tree - Mrs. Melissa Kelley and Mrs. Jessica Davis, kindergarten
