UCHAA team starts 2022 with a string of strong outings


TENNERTON — The Upshur County Homeschool Archery Association team (UCHAA) has had a successful open to the new year, stringing together three strong events in a row. 

First, the team kicked off the season by traveling to Wheeling back on Saturday, January 15 to compete in their first tournament of the 2021-2022 archery season. In the tournament, Clay Tenney took fourth in the high school boys division, while Danielle Shaw took third place and Hannah Stevenson took fifth place for the high school girls division. Jeremy McDonald took third place and Seth Karnes took tenth place for the middle school boys division, while Layla Wooten took third place and Mya Workman took sixth place for the middle school girls division. Caleb Servetas took second place, Malachi Layfield took third place and Levi Ogden took tenth place for the elementary boy’s division, while Lacy Tenney took fifth place and Alyssa Workman took sixth place in the elementary girls division. The UCHAA middle team recorded a combined score of 2875 points, shooting 68 tens, ranking second out of the five teams in attendance. The UCHAA high team scored 3090, shooting 9 tens, ranking third out of the four teams in attendance.

The team then went back on the road on Saturday, January 22 to participate in the GCS Tri-State Shoot held in Huntington. In the tournament, Clay Tenney took first place for the high school boys, while Danielle Shaw took third place, Hannah Stevenson took seventh place, and Alyssa Lewis took eighth place for the high school girls. Charlie Supers took third place and Lincoln Small took eighth place for the middle school boys, while Layla Wooten took fifth place for the middle school girls. Levi Ogden took ninth place for the elementary boys, while Lacy Tenney took seventh place for the elementary girls. The UCHAA middle team scored 2939 points, shooting 76 tens and finished the tournament ranked second out of the eight teams in attendance. The UCHAA high team scored 3045 points, shooting 105 tens, and finished ranked fifth of the five teams in attendance.

Most recently, on Saturday, January 29 the UCHAA team competed in the Small School Showdown in Sutton. Clay Tenney took first place for the high school boys. After a complete tie for first place, Hannah Stevenson ousted Danielle Shaw in a shoot off, 48 to 44 out of 50 possible points, Abilene Supers took fifth place, and Alyssa Lewis took sixth place for the high school girls. Jeremy McDonald took first place, Charlie Supers took second place, Seth Karnes took fourth place, Sawyer McCauley took fifth place, and Josiah Layfield took fifth place for the middle school boys. Mya Workman took sixth place for the middle school girls. Caleb Servetas took first place, Malachi Layfield took third place, and Levi Ogden took fourth place for the elementary school boys. Lacy Tenney took third place, Alyssa Workman took third place, and Birdget Supers took eighth place for the elementary school girls. The UCHAA Middle team scored 2927 points, shooting 74 tens, taking first place out of the four teams in attendance. The UCHHA High team scored 3111 points, shooting 111 tens, ranking third of the four teams in attendance.
