BUCKHANNON — Mothers, fathers and expectant families recently met at Buckhannon-Upshur High School to register and take part in the annual Community Baby Shower.
The event was hosted by the Upshur County Family Resource Network in collaboration with the HAPI Project and the Upshur County Partners in Prevention, along with multiple generous sponsors and volunteers. The event included informational booths that handed out resources to new and expectant families. Some of the vendors were even handing out goody bags for the participants.
UCFRN organized multiple vendors and sponsors, as well as themselves, who were on site handing out baby and child essentials. Each family was given health and safety information, along with baby necessities such as a diaper bag filled with diapers, wipes, full sized toiletries, and handmade blankets. Door prizes like car seats, pack and plays, and many other items were also given away.
This is an annual event for the community that is usually held in March; however, the Community Baby Shower was planned for June this year so it could be held outside due to COVID-19.
The organizers would like to thank all of the vendors, sponsors and volunteers who made the shower possible. They would also like to thank the agencies in attendance for offering so much to the families. The main supporters and donors to the event were the UCFRN, Partners in Prevention, the HAPI project, and donations by Walmart and the local Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur. Buckhannon VIPS assisted with traffic control and manpower was also provided by Opportunity House volunteers.
