BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Fire Association held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 30 at the City of Buckhannon’s Public Safety Complex.
The need for additional firefighters in Upshur County has been highly documented. However, the need extends to the state and national level. The association has actively been working on processes that would aim to increase the already short-staffed fire departments in the area.
Buckhannon Fire Department Fire Chief J.B. Kimble said, “To aid with staffing, there will be a committee created. That committee will consist of two people from the general public, two firemen, two people from the business sector, one city council member and one from county commission.” Kimble also noted that two individuals from the general public had volunteered to serve on the committee, but those names were not made public at this time.
John Roby, President of the Firefighters Association and Assistant Fire Chief of Banks District Volunteer Fire Department, was contacted and expressed the same report on the development of the committee. Those interested in serving on the committee may also contact John Roby at (304) 924-6864 or at (304) 997-5027.
At this time, it is unknown when the committee will be complete, but it is a step in the right direction. All first responders deserve tremendous respect for everything they do for our community. To support them, please attend the next meeting which will occur on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m.
