Two teams tie for win at Barbour Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament

For the first time in the history of its annual charity golf tournament, the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce held a sudden death playoff for the two teams pictured above.  Shown are Greg Zimmerman, Chris Bowers, Dan Judy, Bill Bowers, Benny Casto, Richard Barton, Richard McDaniel and Larry Spotloe. The winners were the team of Greg Zimmerman, who received a cash prize of $500; the runners-up, the team of Richard McDaniel, received $300.

No golfer won the cash prize of $10,000 underwritten by Allegheny Insurance of Elkins. T.C. Howell received a skills prize for his longest putt, Dan Judy for landing closest to the pin. Greg Zimmerman took the prize for having the longest drive. Complimentary golf certificates used as prizes were received from Canaan Valley, Twin Falls State Park, Pipestem State Park, Stonewall Resort, Lake Floyd, and the Buckhannon Country Club.

Hole sponsors paying $100 each included Premier Bank, the Barbour County Development Authority, Chris Phillips of CGP Foods, attorney Hunter Mullens, Ed and Karen Larry, the Barbour County Commissioners, Freedom Bank, Legacy Insurance/Karen Bialek, Kaiser’s Coffee & Candy, Dr. Tim and Ronda Barry, the Terry Jones family, Alderson Broaddus University, the Barbour Community Health Association, Mace’s Pharmacies, Cvechko Insurance, BC Bank, the Laurel Mountain Inn, Snyder Industries and the Builder’s Center.  All proceeds went to student programs at Philip Barbour High School.

Complimentary lunches were donated by Broaddus Hospital and cold beverages by the Barbour Community Health Association, which also provided hole-in-one witnesses Melissa Foy and Connie Williams, and Debbie Schoonover to assist with registration. Door prizes were donated by Sickler Farm, Builders Center, WELLSMART, Cvechko Insurance, Alderson Broaddus University, and the Barbour Country Club.  The Chamber is indebted to the volunteers from the newly restored Barbour Country Club for their invaluable assistance with the annual tournament.

Other participants included teams of four from BC Bank, Alderson Broaddus University, Snyder Industries, Bill Mick, and the Barbour Community Health Association.  Stephen Dye from ABU won the 50/50 drawing.
