BUCKHANNON — The 42nd Strawberry Festival Quilt Show, sponsored by the Quilters at Heart Guild and the Upshur County CEOS, will be held at the Rockefeller Center (gymnasium) on the WV Wesleyan College campus.
Two special exhibits will join the beautiful quilts and quilted items featured in the show.
First will be the West Virginia Quilters 25th Anniversary Contest entries. In 2017 the WVQI state guild issued a challenge for 25x25 inch quilts reflecting the theme “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”. Displayed first at the 2018 Quilt Festival in Summersville, the quilts have also been featured at the Mountain State Forest Festival and the Cultural Center in Charleston. Come and see how quilters from around the state interpreted the theme.
The second special exhibit is from the Storybook Challenge issued to members of the “I of the Needle Guild” from Philippi. Each member made a lap quilt to reflect a particular storybook, and at the end of the year the quilts and books will be donated to foster children.
Again, this year there will be a Youth Category for those 12 and under who have discovered the pleasure of sewing and quilting. Those over 12 may enter items in the regular categories.
The days and hours of the Show are:
Thur., May 16th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fri., May 17th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sat., May 18th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you’d like to display quilt items in the Show, please bring them to the Rockefeller Center on Monday, May 13 from noon to 5 p.m. or Tuesday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration forms and information about categories is available on the Strawberry Festival website www.wvstrawberryfestival.com, from local quilt shops, or on the Quilters at Heart Facebook page.
