Two pets rescued from house fire

BUCKHANNON — Two pets were saved from a house fire Sunday night that caused moderate damage to the home.

The Buckhannon Fire Department, Washington District Volunteer Fire Company, Adrian Volunteer Fire Department and Ellamore Volunteer Fire Department responded at 6:17 p.m. to a fire reported at 264 Morgan Addition Rd., according to BFD Captain J.B. Kimble.

Upshur County EMS also responded.

Firefighters arrived on scene to a 1 ½ story home with “heavy smoke conditions and a fire in the rear part of the house,” Kimble said. “There was moderate damage to the house but a lot of smoke damage.”

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was reported by a neighbor.

Neighbors removed the dog from the home before firefighters arrived and firefighters rescued a rabbit.

Both animals were OK and did not need oxygen, according to Kimble.

Firefighters remained on scene about two hours.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious but is under investigation to determine the cause, according to Kimble.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire.9
