BUCKHANNON — Two people have been arrested for allegedly cashing checks on a closed bank account without permission.
Cody Hosaflook, 27, of French Creek, and Briana Grace Moreland, 27, of Buckhannon, were arrested for fraudulent schemes, a felony.
From March 2 through April 6, the pair allegedly wrote, cashed and deposited checks for $1,000 or more from a closed checking account belonging to a local couple, according to the criminal complaints in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office. The checks were written into their personal account and to local businesses, depriving both the bank and the businesses of money.
Magistrate Roger Clem set bond at $25,000 cash and $25,000 surety for Hosaflook, while Magistrate Kay Hurst set bond at $25,000 cash and $25,000 cash or surety for Moreland.
If convicted, Hosaflook and Moreland face imprisonment in the penitentiary for one to 10 years, or in the discretion of the court, confinement in jail for not more than one year and a fine of not more than $2,500.
