TALLMANSVILLE — The Tallmansville Road was temporarily closed, and some residents were without power for a short time on Wednesday afternoon, due to a single vehicle accident that occurred shortly after 2 p.m., across from the Washington District Fire Department. A four-door Dodge Ram truck driven by Patricia Wamsley was traveling through the Tallmansville area, when she struck a utility pole and swerved off the road. The truck rolled onto its side in a yard quite a distance from the roadway.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and West Virginia State Police Cpl. B.K. Wright is investigating the incident. Emergency personnel had a difficult time removing Wamsley from the truck, then she was transported by Upshur EMS. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time, however they were not believed to be of a life-threatening nature.
When Wamsley struck the utility pole, it caused lines to go down across both lanes of County Route 9, the Tallmansville Road. The power company was dispatched to the location to disconnect power from the downed lines. The roadway was shut down coming and going near the Washington District VFD and residents were temporarily without power.
Upshur EMS and Washington District VFD were the first responders on the scene, with several volunteers that worked diligently to free Wamsley from the vehicle with the danger of the downed power lines lying very close to the overturned pickup truck. Tennerton Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.
