Track Bucs take nine events as they easily win mid-week home meet

The Buckhannon-Upshur 4x800-meter relay team exchanges the baton between Logan Wyatt and Milo Baumann during their track meet Tuesday at the high school. They placed third with a time of 9:34.23. The Bucs won the seven-team event with 165.5 points.

TENNERTON – Winning nine of the 18 events held, the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer track and field team easily won their weekly small mid-week event held Tuesday at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Bucs won six individual events and three relay events.

Picking up individual wins in the running events were Shawn Blandino winning the 100-meter dash (11.77), Sterlin Thropp in the 400-meter dash (51.65), and Julius Hobbs in the 300-meter hurdles (46.20) while getting wins in the field events were Hobbs in the pole vault (11-00), Ben Ball in the shot put (38-04) and Dirk Riley in the discus (113-11).

The three relay wins went to Zach Barcus, Zach Mayle, Cameron Ervin and Thropp in the 4x100-meter relay (47.36), Jordan Gillum, Milo Baumannn, Blandino and Thropp in the 4x400-meter relay (3:40.65) and Damien Claypool, Dakota Smith, Zade Woody and Barcus in the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay (1:08.25).

The Bucs earned five runner-up spots with Thropp taking second in the 100-meter dash (11.80), Blandino second in the 400-meter dash (51.76), Dylan Cornett in the 300-meter hurdles, Ely Cain in the high jump (5-04) and Barcus in the long jump (18-05.75).

The lone third place picked up by the Bucs belonged to the foursome of Milo Baumann, Teddy Davis, Julian Larcher and Logan Wyatt in the 4x800-meter relay (0:34.23).

Larcher ran fourth in the 800-meter run (2:14.45), Gillum placed fourth in the 1600-meter run (4:46.00), Landon Zirkle took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (50.13), Camden Snyder placed fourth in the long jump (17-00) and the foursome of Donovan Abel, Savion Farmer, James Smouse and Conner Lawrence took fourth in the 4x100-meter relay (49.68).

The Bucs won the team title with 165.5 points while Fairmont Senior was a distant second with 89 points with East Fairmont taking third with 82.

The Buccaneers were slated to run Friday at Ritchie County and will run again in their home mid-week event this Tuesday.
