Track and Field Little Bucs finish third at Doddridge


WEST UNION – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Buccaneers placed in 16 of the 19 events here recently to finish third in the 10-team Doddridge County Invitational track and field meet.

The Little Bucs won two events, and added a trio of runner-up places, a pair of thirds, two third-place ties, five fourths, two fifths and a lone sixth to compile 89 points.

Ritchie County claimed the team title with 153 points, with host Doddridge County runner-up with 90.

The two victories went to Shawn Blandino in the 200 meters (25.19), and the 4 x 800-meter relay foursome of Brycen Allen, Jordan Gillum, Ian Donnen and Ely Cain (10:00.50).

Claiming the second places were Blandino in the 400 meters (56.37), Dirk Riley in the discus (108-7), and the shuttle hurdles relay quartet of Garrett Materne, Jesse Hackett, Lakoda Lantz and Ian Strader (43.87).

Picking up the thirds were Donnen in the 1600 meters (5:27.53), and the 4 x 400-meter team of Cain, Allen, Ryan Tenney and Donnen (4:26.92).

The third-place ties were claimed by Cain in the high jump (5-0), and Blandino in the high jump (5-0).

Earning the fourths were Hackett in the shot put (34-4) and in the discus (99-9), Robert DeBarr in the long jump (15-10 ½), Allen in the 800 meters (2:33.88) and the 4 x 100-meter squad of Riley, Easton Perkins, Tenney and DeBarr (55.50).

Getting the fifths were Jack Waggy in the 3200 meters (12:57.71) and Strader in the 200-meter hurdles (31.80).

Debarr captured the sixth spot in the 100 meters in 13.07 seconds.
